I am proud to be volunteering and assisting in the Mortgage Foreclosure Assistance Project through the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA), which provides free Foreclosure Clinics to its community and assists Nassau County homeowners who are struggling with mortgage foreclosure issues. At the clinic, the homeowners can meet with a volunteer attorney for a one-on-one legal consultation and can discuss mortgage foreclosure issues and related legal matters. Clinics are held once a month from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the NCBA located at 15 West Street, Mineola 11501.
As residential foreclosures are on the rise, the Nassau County Bar is attempting to spread awareness of their free Foreclosure Assistance Project. This project not only includes monthly clinics but also includes free for the day representation in the Nassau County Supreme Court Foreclosure Part. The volunteer attorneys at the court house review the facts of each homeowner's case and, after appearing together with the homeowner in the court settlement conference, can then direct the homeowner to the various services of the Homeowner Protection Program (HOPP) offered by the State of New York. The HOPP program has been around since 2012 and consists of nearly 90 legal services and housing counseling organizations that provide homeowners with free, qualified mortgage assistance relief services across New York. The HOPP program is designed to ensure that no family in New York State ever loses their home because they do not have access to a lawyer or qualified housing counselor.
The next available Foreclosure Clinic days, at the NCBA, are as follows:
Monday, October 3, 2022
Monday, November 7, 2022
Monday, December 5, 2022
The Nassau County Bar is also offering the following events to further extend its outreach to families at risk of losing their homes due to foreclosure:
Please assist in spreading the word about this wonderful free service offered by the Nassau County Bar Association.
